Catalogue accompanying Maria Stangret’s monographic exhibition to open at Cricoteka in May 2023.
Essays by Anna Bas, Dorota Jarecka, Lech Stangret and Magdalena Ujma build a fresh picture of who Maria Stangret was. The book integrates the artist’s professional life – priority being given to her practices in the field of visual arts – with her private life with its strategies for negotiating Stangret’s artistic identity within the context of her relationship with Tadeusz Kantor and how it affected her position in artistic and social circles. Illustrations include photographs depicting Maria and Tadeusz Kantor’s private dwellings, their flat in Spokojna Street in Kraków and the house in Hucisko, published here for the first time.
