Listen to Cricoteka!

RESONANCES is a series inviting visitors to explore the interiors of Cricoteka through sound. Through four sound installations created specifically for selected spaces within this unique building, we encourage audiences to experience space in a different, non-visual way. Moving beyond dark concert halls and abandoning the traditional division between stage and audience, we propose new ways of engaging with sound in open, inclusive environments.

Program

Between June and August this year, we will listen closely to Cricoteka’s square, educational workshop space, the Wild Frolics exhibition area, and also visit Cricoteka’s branch location—the unique apartment on Sienna Street, preserved almost exactly as it was when Tadeusz Kantor spent the final years of his life there.

For the second edition of the project, acclaimed composers working in contemporary and experimental music have been invited: Justyna Banaszczyk (FOQL), Teoniki Rożynek, Rafał Ryterski, and the duo Asi Mina & Paweł Romańczuk. Although they differ in style and creative approach, they share a particular sensitivity to space and its sonic qualities.

Their works will interact with selected soundscapes of Cricoteka, responding to their architecture, function, history, and symbolic dimensions. In this way, the installations will serve a dual purpose: on the one hand, they will complement the spaces and accompany existing situations; on the other, they will act as creative interventions within them.

Each installation will be available for approximately two weeks. Every opening will be accompanied by a meeting with the composer(s). A programme of accompanying events—including talks, music production workshops, and sound walks—will further develop the themes explored in each work and encourage discussion about the relationship between sound, architecture, and space.

Program

FOQL | “Bug Poems”

Opening: June 9, 2026, 6:00 PM
Space: Cricoteka square

Installation available during Cricoteka’s opening hours.

Free admission

Thanks to our collaboration with the Migawka Foundation, during the opening you will be able to use a haptic vest that allows d/Deaf people to experience sounds through vibrations.

FOQL, an artist working at the intersection of experimental music, sound art and artivism, proposes a kind of intervention into the concreted, vegetation-free Cricoteka square. Using and expanding material from her experimental album-audio play “Bug Poems”, she invites us to listen closely to the mysterious, slightly unsettling world of insects-aliens.

“BOXOꓭ” | BOX by Asi Mina and XOꓭ Paweł Romańczuk

Duration: July 28 – August 9, 2026
Opening: July 28, 2026, 6:00 PM
Space: “Wild Antics” exhibition

Installation available during Cricoteka’s opening hours, admission included in the exhibition ticket.

The exhibition “Wild Antics” was conceived as a space for active experience of art and for action: for testing, shifting and activating the space through your own activity. And it is precisely in this spirit that two exceptional musicians-constructors-educators, Asi Mina and Paweł Romańczuk, propose their intervention into the exhibition.

The creators of BOXOꓭ try to use cuboid spaces in relation to sound sources, using resonances as tools for an encounter with each other and with the audience. Secret tones, unpacked sounds, sighs of strings, noisy twists into unknown directions, seemingly always available, but together only now.

BOXOꓭ or maybe ꓭ0X0B or b0X0d or B0x0ꓭ?

The choice is yours.

Tadeusz Kantor’s Room in the artist’s apartment at Sienna Street in Kraków (a branch of Cricoteka) is a unique place. Not only because of the spirit of its inhabitant, which is certainly present there, but also because of the arrangement itself – Kantor (just as in his performances) very carefully designed the space around him. His room, although minimalist, is full of mismatched memorabilia, trinkets, and knick-knacks. It is precisely this ambiguity and contrast that Teoniki Rożynek will play with – an artist who combines various forms and styles in her compositions, often exploring the motif of chance or sonic “dirt”. And thanks to the use of sound materials from the Cricoteka archive, the voice of its resident will once again be heard in the “Room”.

Rafał Ryterski, together with visual artist Ľudmila Bubánová, invite you to a space that is simultaneously strange and strangely familiar. Inspired by the prose of Jeff VanderMeer and the new weird genre, they have created a unique microclimate in Cricoteka’s education room – a slightly mysterious, slightly unearthly alternative to the “outside world”. The empty, almost office-like interior of the room becomes infected with Ryterski’s synthetic, organic and seemingly organic sound structures and Bubánová’s “soft sculptures”. The situation they have created, at first glance alien and disturbing, becomes an opportunity for a momentary pause, quieting down, and the titular solace.

As part of the accompanying programme, on August 19 (5:00-8:00 PM) a workshop “Between hardware and software – creating hybrid environments” led by Rafał Ryterski will take place. More information soon.
