The Book Lovers – Cricoteka’s new venue

The new Cricoteka venue will house the final edition of the project The Book Lovers. This project about novels written by visual artists has been an attempt to take up a systematic exploration of the phenomenon. Such novels appeared in the 20th century, it was only in the last decade or two, however, that many visual artists have begun to treat the novel as means of artistic expression. The project The Book Lovers intends to highlight this tendency that until now appears to have passed unnoticed.

The 2013 editions of The Book Lovers: a number of exhibitions took place devoted to the artists who employ the novel as a means of artistic expression (Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Project Space, NYC; De Appel, Amsterdam; Cricoteka, Krakow) as well as a presentation themed on the artistic novel. The programme, which took place at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, comprised lectures, interviews, discussions and performance. In 2015, the project will also be presented at the Fàbricia de Creació de Barcelona in Catalonia.

The project has been co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
