It’s Still Today | Premiere 2025

“It’s Still Today” is a theatrical production by Cricoteka, created through the encounter of actors and actresses with Tadeusz Kantor’s final theatrical work. Several months of work under the direction of Bogdan Renczyński became a kind of stage experiment, emerging from research into the documentation preserved in the Archive’s collections.

The performance is built upon the personal struggles of the actors and actresses — tensions, moments of extremity, beauty, failures, and fears. Archival materials give way to contemporary stories, creating space for individual interpretations. Kantor’s last theatrical work becomes merely a starting point and a provocation for a new creative process. “It’s Still Today” does not directly return to the original performance but instead grows out of the idea of a “living archive,” searching within it for new threads.

Work on “Today Is My Birthday” was abruptly interrupted by Kantor’s death, which occurred after one of the final rehearsals. As a result, the performance is often viewed as an unfinished work. It premiered in Toulouse in 1991. For some critics, “Today Is My Birthday” remains incomplete and lacking precisely due to Kantor’s absence.
